Program Overview

This 4-week program offers an unrivalled blend of academic excellence and hands-on experience, providing you with invaluable insights into the intricacies of marine and coastal conservation. You’ll participate in 2 hours of university classes per day, focusing on ten critical topics, complemented by 20 hours of Spanish language courses, specifically tailored to the language of conservation.

  • Nature and Society: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationships between the environment, technology, and society, with a special focus on the Patagonian region. Explore various ethical environmental perspectives.
  •  Conservation: Dive into the technical concepts applied in biodiversity conservation. Grasp the human impact on the environment and the urgent need for protection and conservation. Explore contemporary conservation challenges.
  •  Natural Areas: Explore the processes involved in researching, developing, and implementing management plans for Protected Natural Areas. Understand the role of natural areas as a conservation strategy, conservation categories, and examples along the Patagonian coast.
  • Biogeography: Recognize the diverse ecoregions of Argentina, particularly within the Chubut Province.
  • Terrestrial Fauna: Identify the characteristic terrestrial fauna of the Patagonian coastal region, its endemism, and its conservation status.

  • Marine Fauna: Understand the distinctive marine fauna of the Patagonian coastal region and its conservation status.
  • Flora: Recognize the characteristic flora of the Patagonian coastal region. Acquire fundamental knowledge to identify major botanical groups during field excursions. Explore plant diversity, botanical morphology, relevant Chubut and Patagonian species, natural grasslands, and introduced flora species in the Chubut Province.
  • Geology and Paleontology: Discover the geological profile of Patagonia and the Valdes area, relating it to the fundamental knowledge of the past’s origin and evolution of life. This understanding is key to comprehending current ecosystem dynamics.
  • Cultural Heritage and Archaeology: Gain insight into the stages of archaeological work, basic theoretical-methodological tools, their scope, and limitations.
